| Biography |
I'm a science writer. My first book, Proust Was A Neuroscientist, was published in 2007 by Houghton-Mifflin. I spent several years working as a tech in a neuroscience lab only to realize that, as my boss put it, "I excelled at experimental failure." That's when I decided to become a writer. |

| Favorite Science Books |
Everything by Oliver Sacks; "Descartes' Error," by Antonio Damasio; "The Periodic Table," by Primo Levi; "The Double Helix," by James Watson; "Time, Love, Memory," by Jonathan Weiner |

W.H. Auden once confessed that, when he was in a room full of scientists he felt like "a shabby curate surrounded by dukes." I understand the feeling entirely. |
